Managed Endpoint Protection for NC K-12 PSUs

This service is designed to protect against all types of cyber threats targeting endpoint devices, including ransomware. While no solution can guarantee 100% protection, the combination of CrowdStrike’s best-in-class protection, MCNC’s real-time monitoring and response, and visibility into device hygiene all combine to provide a substantial protection against the threat of ransomware.

Per NCDPI, the first year is ESSR funding, and the second year was funded by School Connectivity funding expansion. If the rollout of this service is successful, there is a very high likelihood of continued funding. We are hopeful early adoption and high enrollment will prove the significant value of the service for the community and will strengthen the chances of acquiring recurring funding after the initial 2-year period.

Student devices are not included in the NCDPI-funded service. A PSU can purchase licenses for their student devices separately directly from MCNC. Pricing will vary based on the need for the PSU. Each PSU can license devices with all fully managed components included in the NCDPI offering, or the PSU can simply license the security prevention components for a reduced cost. There is no minimum number of devices for deployment. NCDPI has procured licenses to cover the NC PSU-managed servers, staff devices (including teachers), and other PSU-managed non-student devices (including PSU-managed computer labs for students). It does not include student devices. Please reach out to securityservices@mcnc.org if you need assistance determining the number of licenses you should request.

No. CrowdStrike’s Falcon Complete offering utilizes CrowdStrike’s Prevent, Insight, Discover, and Spotlight modules, as well as 24×7 threat hunting from CrowdStrike’s Overwatch team. MCNC’s Managed Endpoint Protection delivers a comparable service using these same CrowdStrike modules and services. The primary difference is that the Falcon Complete service is monitored and managed by CrowdStrike’s operations resources. MCNC’s service is monitored and managed by MCNC’s security operations resources. There are some other differences, but the services provide comparable functionality.
