MCNC Community Colleges

Community Colleges

MCNC provides critical technology and networking services for the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS). Based on the number of colleges, North Carolina has the third largest Community College system in the United States. And since 2011, MCNC has worked with NCCCS and the N.C. Department of Information Technology to integrate a full range of IP-based technologies into individual teaching and learning environments to now serve all 58 colleges in North Carolina.

Supporting Lifelong Learning in North Carolina

Working Together

In 2011, MCNC was awarded the opportunity to provide essential network and technology services to the NCCCS campuses. Since that time, MCNC has proudly served the NCCCS with a network and video agreement that covers the main campuses of all 58 colleges. The agreement covers additional services to meet the demanding needs of Community Colleges.

Contracted Services

As part of the NCCCS agreement, Community Colleges receive an array of services from MCNC at no charge. These include Internet connections ranging from 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps, Client Network Engineering, Enhanced DDoS Protection, DNS Security Filtering, Network Consulting, Security Consulting and Advisory Services, Multipoint Video Conferencing, Streaming, and Desktop Video Conferencing. In addition to these services available via the contract, MCNC’s entire suite of services and solutions is available to Community Colleges including data center and the security services stack. See the “Did You Know” document in the resources section below.

Innovative Learning Environments

A connection to MCNC’s network provides community colleges an unfettered, high-bandwidth infrastructure that can grow to meet education needs at stable costs. The implementation of digital technologies and video for distance learning makes individual community college resources even more accessible for North Carolina students wherever they live, thereby increasing access to post-secondary education. MCNC helps to enhance the learning experience for students, instructors, and administrators by cost-effectively meeting their growing bandwidth demands. A high level of connectivity will help give rise to new ideas, greater educational attainment, and a better prepared workforce.

Campus Connections

MCNC connects all 58 Community Colleges to its network, NCREN, as part of an agreement that includes Internet services. Individual main colleges often work with MCNC to provide connectivity and services to their satellite campuses, helping to ensure that citizens are within a 30-minute drive of a campus and receive the same valuable services of the main campuses. To date, more than 40 satellite campuses are connected directly to MCNC’s fiber network. Click here to view map.
